Firies Climb for MND goes virtual in 2020 with interactive Step Dedication
Like most events in 2020, the Firies Climb for MND is a bit different this year. For the last 5 years, the Firies Climb was a challenge exclusively for firefighters (to climb the 1,504 steps of Sydney Tower Eye wearing over 20kg of firefighting gear) but this year, they’ve gone virtual and anyone can participate in an innovative way.
Participants need to complete a physical challenge that relates to 1504 and then nominate their mates to do it as well. If their mates are not up to it, they can donate $15.04 instead to show their support in helping raise funds and awareness for MND. All funds raised are donated to MND Research at Macquarie University’s Centre for Motor Neuron Disease Research.
In previous years, members of the firefighters community would dedicate the floors of the tower to loved ones. This year, in the absence of a real tower, we’ve created a virtual staircase where each step can be dedicated in support and honour of the people, past and present, who have been affected by MND.
When steps are dedicated, the donor can choose who to donate to and can leave a special message for them as well.
